CLASS DETAILS

Muay Thai Foundations

This class gives the student opportunities in all the basics. Striking, pad holding, bag striking, and footwork/guard are emphasized. We set the tone with music, a safe and disinfected gym, enthusiastic coaches, and a supportive, positive environment. We work within normal Thai boxing timed rounds with regular periods of rest and water breaks.

We instill the basics of the sport with this class, while pushing your cardiovascular conditioning, and working on precise striking. Perfection in the basics of punch combinations, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and kicks is required before adding a higher level class to your learning.

Gear required:

Personal gloves (Thai leather is highly recommended from the NFMT Pro Shop) are required after two weeks. Until this point, you are welcome to use the house gear, unless you would like to purchase from the start.

Hand wraps are optional, but recommended to protect your knuckles and wrists.

All males must be in cups at all times.

This Saturday-only class gives students of all levels a chance to get together and train. It is designed to challenge each other with pad holding, distance, timing, and tempo training. Come ready to sweat but at your own pace with a technical striking lesson followed by pad rounds.

Light Sparring

This class format takes place after the weekday evening classes. Light Sparring allows intensity and power that is less than 50% and allows each student to move in a free-flow environment. Students are encouraged to find what works for them. Adding the technical aspects from class to their fight game allows each individual to practice their art. Experimenting in a semi-live format can give massive insight to how to defend and how to attack.

Additional gear needed:

Mouthpiece

Headgear (optional)

Technical Sparring (Lin Cherng)

This class format takes place after the weekday evening classes. Technical Sparring is a one-on-one format. Offense takes a turn while defense is working on defending. Then roles are switched. This type of sparring is done at 30% and more controlled and technical than situational.

Additional gear needed:

Mouthpiece

Boxing Sparring (Western Boxing)

This Western Boxing sparring is exactly how it sounds. Done at 40-50%, it allows offense to throw accurately and develop timing. Defense is a huge part of this training as most people have not been punched. Learning how to avoid punches, take punches, and defend is critical to the striking game.

Additional gear needed:

Teen Classes

Geared towards teens ages 12-17, these classes combine strength, cardio, and power workouts that build confidence, respect and self-esteem in a fun and challenging way.

Shin guards after 4 weeks

NFMT School uniform after 4 weeks

Private Lessons -- with Khru Doug and coaches

These are one-on-one sessions based on your schedule. Some students schedule these randomly each month, while others prefer only this type of training. We encourage classes and private training, as well as training with all the different coaches to ensure a well-rounded education. Virtual sessions are also available through FaceTime and Zoom.

Open Mat/Open Gym

We have several hours of open gym each day which is designed to give students time to hone their craft with bag work, shadow boxing, pad training with a partner, or ring time. This is time for a student to really focus on developing their skill.

During Open Mat is that there doesn't have to be a coach present. Any student of NFMT can walk down to Club 14 Fitness and grab the key to the school, open it up, turn on the lights, play the music, and go. We fully respect and trust our students with the keys to the school. Each student is expected to leave the school better than they found it. Disinfecting all equipment that they use.

Note: No Sparring is allowed during Open Gym time (coaches must be present during sparring at all times).

All required and suggested gear can be purchased from our Pro Shop either online or in the gym.
